On May 20, the leading Icelandic newspaper Morgunblaðið carried an article on the "Millets Food Festival" organized by Embassy of India, Reykjavik and hosted by the Ambassador and his spouse, Mrs. Ramya Shyam, on May 15, 2023.

Indian Ambassador and Wife celebrate Millets at the House Management School

Recently, the Embassy of India celebrated the international year of the Millet 2023, in a fun and interesting way. The Ambassador of India to Iceland, Shri B. Shyam and Mrs. Ramya Shyam invited people for a celebration at the House Management School, where millet was introduced as the main ingredient. Millet is a generic name for many types of grass or cereal families that are grown around the world for their seeds. Most millet grass species are hardy, heat and drought resistant and thrive in nutrient poor soil.

Many guests attended the event, among the guests was Dr. Vinutha Gowda, Nutritionist, who presented on the processing and cooking of millets. After the presentation, the wife of Ambassador, Mrs. Ramya Shyam gave a demonstration and cooked Indian dishes for the invited guests in which millets were the main ingredient. Guests included people from the restaurant industry, chefs, cooking enthusiasts and health coaches.

Courses made from Millets

In the upcoming days, new millet-based recipes will be published on Matarvef mbl.is, specifically courses made during the event by Mrs. Ramya Shyam. It will therefore be an ideal opportunity for those interested to try and learn about exciting dishes made from millet. Millet is defined as a healthy and wholesome food.

In today's world, there is an increasing demand for food that is organic, green and sustainable and leaves as little carbon footprint as possible. Millet is considered to be the type of food that meets all requirements for sustainability and health.
